IIS OUR GOVERNMENT ETHICAL?

Is Congress ethical? You decide (Hint: the answer is NO but I’d welcome challenges).

Passing laws applying to the general public while exempting themselves from those laws is dishonest and unethical. Lying to get elected is unethical. Not delivering on promises made is unethical. Accepting favors to promote legislation favoring special interests is unethical. Consider the definition of playing politics, described in Webster’s New Universal Unabridged Dictionary: “to engage in political intrigue, take advantage of a political…issue, resort to partisan politics…exploit a political system or…relationships, to deal with people in an opportunistic, manipulative, or devious way…” Playing politics is demonstrably unethical, yet it is standard operating procedure in Washington (which, incidentally—or not—is populated by those who govern us and, again not incidentally, may be the richest city in the nation).

The courts? Well, Supreme Court justices are appointed and demonstrably partisan—not objective, as judges are supposed to be. You decide…

It’s not for nothing that all three branches of government are largely populated by lawyers…

Is our government ethical? No, it is not, but since our government is of the people, by the people and for the people, where does the responsibility lie?

With the people. That’s us—you and me.

The people elect their representatives and place their trust in them. Our representatives are charged with that trust and the responsibility to govern in accordance with our Constitution. Honestly. If the Constitution doesn’t work, it contains means for being corrected. Ignoring it is not one of those means; it is illegal as well as unethical, just as violating the trust of the electorate is unethical.

Why do we continue to elect those who violate our trust? And _keep _them there? Why did we re-elect an unethical president? Why do we re-elect unethical representatives? Why do we tolerate a system of professional politicians rather than the representative government bequeathed by our Founders?

A lack of ethics (honesty) is crippling our nation. It is the purpose and goal of ExtremeEthics to reverse this trend.
